THE REESTABLISHMENT AND EXPANSION OF THE CABINET OF THE UNDERGRADUATE EXECUTIVE BRANCH OF STUDENT GOVERNMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL

 

WHEREAS, ensuring the ability to implement platform, policy, and programming initiatives that serve the aims of the Vann Administration is a necessary duty of the current Student Body President; and

WHEREAS, the Undergraduate Student Code of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill states that “The President may issue Executive Orders directing the official establishment, conduct, policies or other operations of any committee or representative that falls under the control of the Office of the Undergraduate Student Government President”; and, 

WHEREAS, the previous Undergraduate Executive Branch of Student Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill consisted of Cabinet Directors and Assistant Directors serving in the Executive Cabinet; and, 

WHEREAS, the previous structure of the Executive Cabinet requires streamlining and creation of specific roles to provide delineated working channels in the interest of maintaining transparency, in addition to specific and digestible organizational structures, the reestablishment and expansion of the Executive Cabinet must occur, 

BE IT, THEREFORE, I, TALIAJAH M. VANN, Student Body President of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, by the authority vested in me by the Joint Code of the Student Government and the Undergraduate Student Code of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, do hereby order:

    1. That the Undergraduate Executive Branch and Executive Cabinet of Student Government of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill formally recreate the following Offices and Executive Cabinet Departments:
      1. Office of the President
      2. Office of the Vice President
      3. Office of the Chief of Staff
      4. Office of the Secretary / Department of Communications
      5. Office of the Treasurer
      6. Department of State and External Affairs
  • Department of Academic Affairs and Professional Development
        1. The Department of Academic Affairs and Professional Development advocates for, progresses, and sustains progressive academic policies that support all undergraduate students, especially underrepresented students. These directors will work together to ensure that the University’s academic policies are free from systemic barriers that often prevent marginalized students from succeeding. 
  • Department of Campus Life and Student Experiences
        1. The Department of Campus Life & Student Experiences works to foster community throughout the student body and advocate for improved systems here at Carolina that affect students day-to-day. The directors and their teamwork in areas such as the first-year experience, transfer student life, greek life, the arts, and infrastructure accessibility. The ultimate goal is to create a better, more equitable campus experience for students during their time at Carolina. 
  • Department of Civic Engagement and Outreach Services
        1. The Department of Civic Engagement and Outreach Services heads the Executive Branch’s efforts to increase student engagement in the civic and democratic processes on a local and state level. Departmental Co-Directors will be responsible for executing the visions set forth in the platform pertaining to public service, sustainability efforts, and alumni outreach among other policy areas. 
  • Department of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
        1. The Department of  Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion furthers inclusion and equity work within the Executive Branch while leading the Department of D.E.I. to progress inclusion and racial equity throughout the University. The Co-Directors of these departments will also be responsible for working with the Event Coordinator to put forward inclusive programming for the University. 
  • Department of Student Wellness and Safety
        1. The Department of Student Wellness & Safety works in both the physical and mental health spaces to improve the well-being of students at Carolina. This includes breaking down barriers to accessible healthcare and ensuring the student body feels safe on every corner of campus. The directors and their team work closely with the UNC administration to accomplish these goals.
  • Department of Environmental Affairs
      1. The Department of Environmental Affairs leads the Executive Branch’s strategic work centering around environmental projects and policies affecting the student body and the wider campus community. Departmental Co-Directors will carry out the strategic efforts of the department, in accordance with the Administration’s platform, while also being responsible for managing administrator-student and student organization relations and determine whether change is needed to further our renewable energy transition. 
  1. That the Departments of Academic Affairs and Professional Development; Campus Life and Student Experiences; Civic Engagement and Outreach Services; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Environmental Affairs; and Student Wellness and Safety be directly supervised by Department Co-Directors and operated in collaboration with general staff to carry out the specific policy aims of their Department and the Vann Administration
  2. That Department of Academic Affairs and Professional Development Co-Directors; Campus Life and Student Experiences Co-Directors; Civic Engagement and Outreach Services Co-Directors; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Co-Directors; Environmental Affairs Co-Directors; and Student Wellness and Safety Co-Directors are directly responsible for the business conducted by their respective Departments in working with all other Department staff and/or any other position as deemed necessary by the Director, Chief of Staff, or President
