THE TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF OPERATIONS OF THE UNDERGRADUATE EXECUTIVE BRANCH OF STUDENT GOVERNMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL TO PRIORITIZE HEALTH AND WELLNESS


WHEREAS, the Undergraduate Student Code of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill states that “The President may issue Executive Orders directing the official establishment, conduct, policies or other operations of any committee or representative that falls under the control of the Office of the Undergraduate Student Government President”; and, 

WHEREAS, the official last day of class of the Spring 2021 semester at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is Wednesday, May 5, 2021; and, 

WHEREAS, the first reading day, and subsequently the final exams period, for the Spring 2021 semester at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill begins Thursday, May 6, 2021; and, 

WHEREAS, final exams season is typically the most stressful time of the academic year for students; and, 

WHEREAS, the mental health and overall wellness of student leaders and Branch stakeholders is of utmost importance to the Richards Administration, 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, LAMAR RICHARDS, Student Body President of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, by the authority vested in me by the Joint Code of the Student Government and the Undergraduate Student Code of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, do hereby order:

  1. That the Undergraduate Executive Branch of Student Government of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill temporarily suspend operations from 12:00 am on Thursday, May 6, 2021 to 11:59pm on Friday, May 14, 2021 to allow student leaders and Branch stakeholders the opportunity to focus on final exams and academic coursework at the culmination of an unprecedented semester
  2. That as a direct result of the aforementioned suspension of operations, student leaders and Branch stakeholders have the intentional opportunity to prioritize their mental health, wellness, and overall well-being through a multitude of outlets including, but not limited to, engaging in social, physical, and mental wellness sessions, events, and activities led by counseling professionals
  3. That as a direct result of the aforementioned suspension of operations, no meetings be scheduled within Undergraduate Student Government nor in representation of or on behalf of Undergraduate Student Government in this time period
  4. That as a direct result of the aforementioned suspension of operations, no Undergraduate Student Government events be scheduled or planned in this time period
  5. That as a direct result of the aforementioned suspension of operations, other Branches of Student Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill be strongly encouraged to suspend operations during this time period

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the seal of the Student Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on this day 15 of April in the year of two thousand and twenty one.
